West Coast Secondary Education Support Centre

Workplace Learning – WPL

West Coast Secondary Education Support Centre offers a Workplace Learning Program to students in Years 11 and 12. Students are placed in actual work situations throughout the school year to learn about the world of work. Students are supported by an Education Assistant, if required. This experience helps prepare students for life after school enabling them to experience specific occupations and the changing nature of the workplace. It also gives students the opportunity to meet new people and cope with new situations which develops self confidence and independence. Students complete a Logbook each week, which records their experiences and the skills they develop.

This Workplace Learning Program involves students going out to work for two days per week. The student is encouraged to have some input into discussing industry areas which may be of interest to them and reflecting on the work placements already completed in view to planning for the transition from school to work, further training or Alternatives to Employment. This will be covered in Careers Education within class but parents are also encouraged to have some input into this area. Any feedback, suggested industry areas of interest or contacts for employers should be forwarded to school as soon as possible so that planning can commence at the beginning of the year.
