WCSESC offers VET (Vocational Education Training) courses to our students which take into account our students capabilities and achievements as well as parental input.
We believe our students deserve recognition for their continuous hard work and motivation to succeed in the academic field, particularly in concepts that are an integral part of our existing curriculum, such as communication skills, team work, social skills, work readiness and career planning.
Courses are offered to suit student needs and future employment preferences. One such course is a Certificate I in Transport and Logistics . Some Year 12 students have attended The Shed at Butler and gained Units of Competency in Certificate II in Construction Pathways. Others have attended Central TAFE in order to access the Driver Education Program. Some of our students attend ACTIV Pathways in Osborne Park. As an Independent School, we are able to fund either the full cost of the qualification where appropriate or allocate Education Assistant time as required.
In 2012, two students completed the Construction Pathways qualification. In 2013 they enrolled at Trades North and completed a Certificate II in Plastering and Bricklaying. They would have not have been able to follow this path without the support of the Centre. Our VET Coordinator put together their applications and followed them through the processing stages, offering further evidence in support of their applications as required. Without the role of the VET Coordinator within the Centre, this would not have happened.
